"We reaffirm our commitment to sustainability, irrespective of technological developments or changing demands. A liveable, equitable and sustainable future remains our utmost goal." Michael Winterson, Secretary General, European Data Centre Association

The European Data Centre Association (EUDCA) reaffirms its unwavering commitment to climate-neutral, grid-integrated data centres and sustainable digital growth.

Since its establishment in 2012, our purpose has been to enable a dynamic, responsible European digital economy, through bringing the digital infrastructure community together to inform, influence and shape a sustainable future.

Our mission is to help in building a strong European digital industry, facilitating the procurement of resources necessary for a competitive digital economy.

As a co-founder of the Climate Neutral Data Centre Pact, EUDCA and its members have been actively working towards the elimination of operational emissions and the continuous improvement of energy and resource efficiency across the sector. The industry has committed to making data centres climate neutral by 2030 through ambitious action on energy efficiency, renewable energy sourcing, water conservation, circular economy practices and the reuse of waste heat.

Over the past years, EUDCA has worked closely with the European Commission and other stakeholders to advance two complementary objectives: climate-neutral data centres and the sustainable expansion of Europe's digital infrastructure to support digitalisation, AI and competitiveness. EUDCA has consistently maintained that these goals are mutually reinforcing and must be achieved through the efficient integration of data centres into the wider energy system. These positions have been publicly articulated in EUDCA's statements, consultations and technical engagement with European institutions.

On 3 June 2026, EUDCA, together with the European Commission, Commissioner Dan Jørgensen and partners from across the energy sector, signed a Declaration of Intent to advance the sustainable integration of data centres into the European energy system. The declaration reinforced the need for reliable, decarbonised electricity systems, closer cooperation between data centres, grid operators and public authorities, and a predictable, investment-friendly framework that supports both sustainability and competitiveness.

EUDCA has repeatedly underlined that Europe will not be able to unlock the digital infrastructure capacity required for its AI and digital ambitions without addressing structural challenges in the electricity system, including the timely reinforcement and expansion of transmission and distribution grids, faster and more transparent permitting processes, and stable access to low-carbon electricity.

EUDCA’s annual report, State of European Data Centres further documents the sector's sustainability and socio-economic performance, drawing on member data, and information gathered from the European Energy Efficiency Directive reporting (EED). These reports are freely available and serve as a record of sustainability, and broader environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance.
