Circular Batteries – A Report

Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) will play an important role in the required shift to a more renewable, resourceful and low-carbon future. However, the current way we make, use and dispose of LIBs leads to adverse environmental, social and economic outcomes globally. 

The circular economy presents an opportunity to address these adverse outcomes and shift to more sustainable and resilient supply chains. 

Arup’s report, Circular Batteries, provides key recommendations for policymakers, industry and investors. It aims to harness circular economy thinking and stimulate leadership in the LIB industry by: 

• Analysing the current state of the industry
• Outlining how circular business models could, or already do, apply to the lifecycle
